This October, In conjunction with the Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team (WOLT), we are taking 12 paddleboarders for what promises to be a stunning SUP adventure in beautiful and awe inspiring Pembrokeshire.

If you paddleboard regularly and want to take the next step into more wild and exciting waters then check out this incredible trip of 3 fully guided days of SUP skills, expedition basics, navigation tips and vital safety knowledge with our WSA and British Canoeing qualified instructors and staff.

Pembrokeshire is unique in offering a huge variety of paddling options from breathtaking sea paddles through flowing grade1+ rivers, to surf beaches and epic estuary routes all within a short drive from our base. The area offers a huge choice of coastlines and stunning inland waterways.
You will be involved in the planning and organisation of each adventure, learning how to predict weather and water conditions and plan adventurous routes.
Activities will be tailored to the group’s abilities and include elements of route planning & navigation, weather forecasting, kit planning, safety & rescue techniques, group management, paddling skills and environmental awareness.

Our team of instructors and support crew will make sure you enjoy a fun, thrilling, and horizon-widening 4 days of SUP in one of the most beautiful locations in the UK...

Who is this course aimed at?

If you are looking for a safe, guided way to expand your paddling horizons and move onto more adventurous waters, then this course is for you.

You should have a reasonable degree of confidence and balance on flat water and be comfortable paddling a full day’s route at a medium pace. But you don’t need to be a super SUP’er! This course is designed to develop your skills and confidence to try more adventurous routes in a safe supported group environment.

A reasonable degree of fitness is recommended as there may be some long paddles and long activity days.

You do not need any previous sea, surf or fast water/whitewater SUP experience, but any experience of other paddlesports or outdoor sports will be very useful. If you have only tried sheltered water paddling, don’t worry, this course is designed to introduce you to the next level of paddling.

You are welcome to bring your own paddleboards, though we will provide SUPs suitable for each of the activities you will be undertaking if you do not have them.

We will provide safety equipment and other expedition gear. A full kit list will be provided to you.

Applicants must be over 18 to attend

Location & Accommodation

Pembrokeshire is our chosen location due to it’s incredible abundance of epic paddling spots.

The peninsular geography provides coastlines, river estuaries and bays facing almost all directions and offers sheltered paddling or more exposed coastlines, whatever the conditions.

There are also flowing river stretches that can be paddled from deep inland right out to the coast onto surf beaches. You will struggle to find a more perfect paddlesport environment.

Our accommodation is dormitory style bunkhouses with full shower and kitchen facilities. This means you can fully refresh in comfort after each day’s activity. Breakfast is included in the price as is an evening meal.

We will also have indoor common room areas where planning, debriefs and short classroom sessions can take place as well as evening socialising. The site is a coastal location with a sea launch, access to the the coast path and not far from one of the UK’s best surfing spots.

Day 1
We will arrive in Pembrokeshire mid-morning on the Monday and meet for coffee and introductions before, weather permitting, a relaxed sheltered water paddle as a group to get to know each other and for you to meet and paddle with the instructional team.

This may be in a coastal or inland location dependent on conditions. You will receive some SUP technique and skills coaching aimed at leveling up the group and establishing common terms and communication skills that will be useful in the days ahead.

We will then head to our bunk house accommodation site and get settled in. You will have some free time to explore local paddling and surf sites in the evening if you wish.

An evening meal will be cooked for you and over dinner, as a group we will discuss and plan options for the next day’s activity. There will be informal classroom sessions on weather, tides, route planning, kit choice and other relevant topics to help the group make good critical decisions on where to paddle and what kit to prepare.

Day 2
Cooked Breakfast (or equivalent) will be provided at the bunkhouse.

All kit will be loaded into mini buses and other transport and we will proceed out early to mid morning to a full day’s adventurous activity.

This may be a grade 1-2 river paddle, a coastal exploration, an inland waterway expedition, a small surfing session or a blend of more than one type of route.

We will provide kit transportation and recovery to and from top and bottom sites of a paddle, but some use of your own transportation may be used to help position or return all participants throughout the activity.

You will need to bring your own items for a packed lunch and sufficient drinks for each day.

We will aim to finish each day by late afternoon and return to the accommodation site to give you time to wash and change (or enjoy more time paddling at local sites) before dinner is served.

The day will be de-briefed over dinner to ensure you consolidate your learning and share experiences and knowledge gained with the group. After dinner there will be planning and research for the next day’s adventure.

Day 3
The final day will be an early rise to pack a full day in. Breakfast will again be provided. We will pack and check out from the accommodation after breakfast before proceeding to the site of the final day’s paddle.

We will plan this day to finish mid afternoon, allowing time for a reasonable return journey home.

This will be a smaller, more manageable paddle, hopefully giving a chance to consolidate the week’s learning and practice learned techniques and have some fun before packing down into our vehicles ready for the return home.

The instructor team will deliver a final debrief and answer any questions before we say farewell and depart for home around 3pm.
